Woman, 36, killed in suspected arson attack hours after police contact

A murder hunt is underway after a 36-year-old woman was killed in a suspected arson attack hours after she was in contact with police.

Detectives have launched an investigation following the blaze in Harlesden at around 2.15am on Thursday.

Officers, along with firefighters and paramedics, were called to Alric Avenue where they found the woman suffering with serious injuries.

The woman, who is yet to be formally identified, was pronounced dead shortly after 6am.

Another woman, who is in her 60s, was taken to hospital, where she was treated for injuries which were not life-threatening.

The Metropolitan Police said the cause of the fire is being treated as suspicious and a referral has been made to the Metropolitan Police’s directorate of professional standards.

A statement said: “A referral has been made to the Met’s directorate of professional standards following police contact with the victim a few hours prior to this incident.”

A man, who is in his 40s and is believed to have known the victim, has been arrested on suspicion of arson and is in police custody.
